The right hairstyles for your face, pt 2

Oblong face:

An oblong shaped face is generally more longer than an oval shaped one. There are many oblong face hairstyles to choose from. As your face is long, you need to choose a haircut that will have good amount of hair volume on the sides and less volume on the top.

Oblong Face Hairstyles :

If you have an oblong face, it is better to go in for short and medium haircuts. Long haircuts may make your head look longer. However, with some adjustments to long hairstyles, you can wear a long haircut and create an illusion of a less oblong face.

Short Hairstyles
In case of an oblong face, the best option is to choose a short hairstyle with a bit of volume on the sides. While choosing a short haircut, make sure that you do not choose a very short haircut, as this will not add width to the sides of the face. Wearing a boyish haircut which is only till above the ear will make your face appear longer. Two of the best oblong face hairstyles for women are a chin-length bob or a shoulder-length bob. To add a little more style, just wear any of these haircuts with bangs skimming through the eyebrows. This will certainly make your face look beautiful.

The right hairstyles for your face

So many hairstyles, so many wrong outlook of these styles on faces,to achieve the perfect style for your face, you need to know the shape of your face.

I have met people with the dissatisfied look on their faces about their hairstyles, complaining about how the style look on them.

what you need to do is find out the shape of your face, consult with your stylist and you will get the best result.

There are different shapes of faces
ROUND, OBLONG, SQUARE,HEART SHAPE & MORE

I will start with the "Round face"

Round face:

The most common features that qualify a face as being round are absence of strong cheekbones, fullness of the cheeks, a rounded chin and a neck that may not be short but seems to be so. However, no face shape is perfect and a person with a round face may have a pronounced chin.
women with round faces should try hairstyles that would play down the roundness of their face and make it look slimmer.

Short Hairstyles for Round Face: Although short hair is not advised for round faces, certain short haircuts could look good on round faces. The key to impressive short haircuts for round faces is to add volume at the top of the head through layering or heightened bangs. A haircut is also crucial for those who want to wear short hairstyles for a round face structure. The best hair length for women with a round face shape is one that ends well above the chin or a few inches below the chin and above the shoulders. Hair up to the level of the chin is a strict no no. For very short hair, the pixie cut is a great option. This haircut reduces the volume of the face by adding short wispy layers to the hair. Shag cuts with wispy ends between the chin and the shoulder would also achieve the same result. An off centered partition of the hair further helps to reduce the roundness of the face.

Long Hairstyles for Round Face: The most highly recommended round face hairstyles can be worn in long hair as it makes the face look longer and slimmer. Long hairstyle is particularly advised if you have a center parting that draws attention along the length of the face. Cutting hair in layers that would let it fall in long lines along the sides of the face works well for many. The main aim of the hairstylist should be to keep the longer locks sleek and slender until they pass below the chin. Adding wispy tapered ends would help soften the roundness of the face. An offset side fringe also acts to give the face and the neck a slender look.

Styles to Avoid for Round Face
Stay away from heavy, blunt bangs that add volume to the face. Instead get long, wispy layered bangs with a side parting.

Do not fall for the flattering curls next to the cheeks. They just add fullness to the face

Blunt ends close to the cheeks make the cheekbones look wider.

Bob cut is just NOT the hairstyle for round faces as it emphasizes the
cheeks.

Purchasing DOs & Don'ts

Do buy multipurpose makeup, such as lip-cheek combinations.

Do shop in daylight for foundation

Don't equate "dermatologist tested" with better quality. The claim does not guarantee that the doctor approved of the product, just that it was tested

Do save your receipts. many stores will refund your money within a specified period of time if you are not satisfied with a product.if any cream based makeup smells or has an odd texture, take it back. it is probably old.

Makeup for dark complexion

FOUNDATION

Choose a creamy or liquid foundation, but one that is not oily. Its always better to use a water based foundation. If there is a lot of yellow pigmentation in the skin, use a product that is not orange based. A sheer foundation and a good concealer are musts for creating the illusion of perfect skin. The foundation should not be lighter than your skin tone. Try to get one which is as close to your normal skin color as possible. When you apply foundation and powder, your aim should be for a lighter coverage. Remember that dark skins show up layers of make-up much more than fair skins. Special attention should be paid to blending. Adding a drop of water to the foundation before you apply it, may also help. Mix them on the back of your hand and apply it on your skin. Check the effect in daylight.

POWDER

Use a light baby powder after the foundation. This helps to give the skin a sheen and is not too heavy. Avoid applying too much powder, specially around the eyes. Always dust off the excess powder.

BLUSH

For your blush, you should choose colors from coral, rose, deep orange. Avoid browns and peachy shades for blush-on. For very dark skin, try a dark rose pink color for the day and shades of bronze, plum and wine for the night. Blend the blusher over the cheekbones, as it helps to brighten the skin tone. For special occasions at night, use a touch of gold.

It can really look glamorous on dark skins. Apply it at the temples and under the outer corner of the eyebrows

EYE MAKEUP

Dark skin tone looks great with dark purple and blue colors on eyes. Dark metallic colors also look good. Silver around your eye will make them stand out and look brilliant. Finish your eyes with black eyeliner and black mascara.

If you wish to use eyeshadow, avoid white or very light colors. A gold eye shadow would be complimentary where as a silver one may not look good.

HIGHLIGHTER

Can be very effective on dark skins when used on the bridge of the nose, around the eye area, above the cheek bones and just above the upper

LIPSTICK

Choosing the right colors is important for your lipstick too. Choose lipsticks with the matte finish rather than frosted ones. Medium and dull shades would look best.Bright pinks and reds are an absolute NO NO!. If you have dark lips, before applying lipstick, put some foundation and powder on your lips. Dark skin types can wear all of the wonderful dark lip colors such as blackberry, caramel and purples . They all compliment your lips

Tips for your natural hair

I have had a lot of people ask me this question "how do i take care of my natural hair"?

If you have super curly, kinky or nappy hair, your hair is best handled wet. You may find it easiest to comb it with a wide tooth comb immediately after wash( before you dry your hair ).
Give up on that skinny comb and get one made for your hair. Try to avoid combing your hair while dry as the comb will tend to catch and break the hair. If you need to comb your hair while it's dry, be gentle.
Try to spritz with some water or a cream first. You can use an unbraid product like Black Earth's Protective Mist Bodifier, Cantu hair product or Royal Roots Detangler.
If you're unbraiding your hair and get to some tangles, pull them loose with your fingers before you go on combing.

Basic hair care

These are essentials for healthy hair

* Either section the hair and plait it, tie it back or wrap it up using a scarf before going to bed, this will reduce the number of tangles you have to comb out the next morning, reducing the chances of breaking your hair.

* Sleep with a satin scarf or sleep cap on your head or with a satin pillow case. This helps avoid split ends caused by the rubbing of your hair against a "rough" cotton pillow case. It also avoids moisture being wicked out of your hair into your cotton pillow case.

* Wash your hair no more often than every week to week and a half. More than that can dry it out.

* Comb your hair out while you're conditioning it to remove the tangles while it's wet and relatively slick.

* Oil your scalp on a regular basis with a good natural oil like shea butter. A daily moisturizer is not a bad idea.

* Do a deep conditioner or hot oil treatment once a month.

* Massage your scalp on a regular basis to promote circulation and oil production.

* Avoid overuse of products with mineral oil or petroleum. They tend to block the pores and are not readily absorbed. If your mother used Vaseline® on your hair, stop.

* If you exercise and sweat, rinse the salt out of your hair even if you don't wash it. Condition it afterwards with a daily leave-in conditioner.

* Always use a leave-in conditioner after washing your hair.

* Put as little heat as possible on your hair.
Heat, especially combined with perms is very damaging to hair.

* Avoid alcohol based products unless you have a need for a water-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp (for example while you're waiting for your locks to lock).

* Remember that water (moisture) is your friend and get plenty- inside and out. If you used to press your hair or blow it out and learned to fear water on your hair because it would draw up, you need to get over this. Spritzing a little water on your hair every day is a good idea. Get a spray bottle and just spray it just a little.

* Eat a proper diet. Vitamins and protein are essential for proper hair growth. We have nutritional supplements specifically designed for hair and skin health. Hair Growth Supplements

* Find a style that works with your natural hair type and growth pattern. The less you work against your hair, the less stressed it will be.

* Do not relax your hair until it is bone straight. This is just asking for trouble. Why relax your hair until it has absolutely no body or curl and then put heat on it to try to get that curl back?
